At First Sight Day 7: Valentine's DAY!!

Happy Valentine's day! Because it is a special occasion, I am finally allowed to wear my cosmetic lenses :b

Using Misaki Brown Natsumi Series. They are really soft! Like all cosmetic lenses, it took a few mins for my eyes to get used to them. After which, they feel comfortable to me.

Anw, we actually went to Science Center for the Dinosaur's Exhibition! HAHAHA! Singapore is too boring for words and we have to resort to such measures.

@ the entrance. Btw after reading my post you don't have to spend $20 for the exhibition ok! Its quite small so nothing much to do there except pose for silly photos. However if you are a kid, you get to do all kind of cool stuff like collect stamps and decorate stuff.

le bf made a racist observation: those dinos that originated from China/Asia has small eyes like this dino and those that originated from USA or Europe has large, coloured ones! TMD I am super sad.

Finally figured a good setting for the camera. yay!

At First Sight Day 6: Wearing cosmetic lenses daily

This post will be part 6 of a 7 day challenge for At First Sight's campaign

This post will touch on the problem of wearing cosmetic lenses daily!

Many people, (including ME) think that cosmetic lenses can be worn every day, replacing contact lenses. Well, they make me look alot better and correct my vision so why not?

Well, it is not recommended to wear cosmetic lenses daily because:

1) Coloured contact lenses may result in compromised vision as the artificial pupil it creates for wearers are non-altering and will not be able to constrict and dilate to accommodate users’ viewing needs.

2) The pigments that are present in coloured contact lenses also cause greater accumulation of dirt, making cleaning more challenging than usual

*Big fat Sigh* This is goodbye to my awesome cosmetic lenses except for special occasions like Valentine's day :P Yep, I'm saving those Misaki lenses for V day! :D

At First Sight Day 5: Wearing contact lenses pass its replacement date

This post will be part 5 of a 7-day challenge for At First Sight campaign.

State that it is a common problem for people to use contact lenses pass its replacement date for various reasons, such as being too busy to buy new lenses on time and forgetting when they first purchased lens and hence unable to determine when to change into new pair.

Personally, I also suffer from 'selective forgetting' so that I can 'drag' the prescriptive periods. Hey! lenses are really expensive okay!

Plus, I believe that as long as the lenses feel fine in my eyes, they should be okay...

Well, the purpose of replacing contact lenses on a frequent basis is to prevent discomfort, dryness, blurred vision or allergic reaction that can result from a build-up of protein and lipid deposits on the lenses. Even when these symptoms do not show, wearing contact lenses pass its replacement date will subject your eyes to greater risk of the occurrence of these symptoms.

Pawned again lol. It just sucks to be my eyes.

Remedies for this problem:

To save cost, purchase in bulk whenever possible; make good use of promotional discounts when buying in bulk. Optic shops always carry promotions.

eg:

Track your purchases on a calendar/set reminders or alarms for yourself on mobile phone.

At First Sight Day 4: : Wearing contact lenses for prolonged period of time

This post will be part 4 of a 7-day challenge for At First Sight campaign.

Today's topic will be on wearing contact lenses for prolonged period of time. This is bad. Of all the problems addressed, I totally BINGO-ED ALL OF THEM.

This is a difficult problem to address especially how insane uni life is. I often stay in school for long hours = wearing contact lenses for waaaay over the time limit.

Besides, my school is in pulau NTU, and I use 4 hours to travel back and forth. That leaves me with a pathetic 4-6 hours of 'healthy usage'. Seriously??

And yes, recommended hours for contact lenses are not more than 8-10 hours continuously for up to 5 days a week. Now, weekends are for hanging out with le boyfee, I HAVE to have lenses on yo. And soooo.. I practically wear lenses for over 12 hours per day and 7 days a week. *inserts horror music*

Now, for the lecture why we should NOT do so:

Wearing contact lenses for long hours deprive eye tissues of oxygen and encourages the growth of bacteria which thrives in anaerobic environments.

Contact lenses also block the film of tears from the cornea, thus hindering its crucial role of washing out bacteria on the cornea. When contact lenses are worn for long hours, there is an increased risk of eye infections.

Hence, I guess I can bring my spectacles out with me to school and change into them before going home. That will save me 2 hours of usage! :D And I can easily NOT wear lenses when just going to the market for food. :P

Also, I recently developed the habit of bringing eye drops in my bag with me to prevent dry eyes, which is super genius cos they do feel better! I have dry eyes naturally so whenever the wind blows, my lenses get SUPER dry and will drop out if I do not close my eyes immediately. I missed out on many exciting sights that way, like when I ride a roller coaster and have to close 1 eye at a time so that my lenses will not dry out and fly off. lol

At First Sight Day 3: Lack of regular eye checks

This post will be part 3 of a 7-day challenge for At First Sight campaign.

As the title shows, today's topic will be on a lack of regular eye checks!

Contact lens wearers should get their eyes checked at least once a year. Although many people do know this, they often do not. Most people only go seek professional help when they experience any form of discomfort in their usage of contact lenses.

When I do get an eye infection, my eyes will swell and I cannot get the contact lenses to fit properly. I even 'forced' them in, only to suffer the consequences of having to constantly arm myself with a tissue to wipe away the thick yellow pus.

Super freaking gross. It looks just like the stuff that comes out of your nose and throat when you have a baaaad cold.

I don't go to the doctor cos they will probably ask me to stop wearing lenses for x months and that would be hell! So I always attempted to 'self -treat'. Buy tons of eyewash and eye drops, non-stop spamming and exceeding the recommended amounts. I just didn't take good care of my eyes at all. *guilty face*

Now that I know better, I know that I should never neglect to seek professional advice in cases of infections or irritations. I really don't want to lose my (already pathetic) sight!!

It is important to get eye check ups for the following points as well:

- making sure prescription is up-to-date- check the health of the eye- the curvature of the cornea- inspect the eye for microscopic complications related to wearing a contact lens (early detection means less risk of severe eye infections)- Abnormal blood vessel growth related to a lack of oxygen to the cornea is another thing that your eye doctor may check for at your annual contact lens examination.

Never knew that they check for so many symptoms! I always thought that eye checks are not important at all but now I think they are! We have to make time for our own health. If not, who else would?

At First Sight Day 2: Lack of proper cleaning procedures for contact lenses

This post will be part 2 of a 7-day challenge for At First Sight campaign.

Day 2 of the 7 day challenges brings up the topic of a lack of proper cleaning procedures for contact lenses.

Personal experience: Once I get home, I usually just remove my lenses after washing with tap water (no soap, omg) throwing away old solution that I didn't bother in the morning, put the lenses into the casing and fill it up with new solution. TADAH!

Okay, obviously it is not the right way but I am just that lazy to spare some time and properly cleanse my lenses. So after around 2 weeks, my lenses are no longer crystal clear and they itch and hurt every time I put them in. Urgh. And they are not so comfortable + blur.

And I risk running into eye infections which are such a chore cos I would want to wear my lenses and get through the day without constantly rubbing my eyes!

So here are the steps that I should actually be doing from now on:

1. Washing your hands thoroughly (with soap!) before handling contact lenses.
2. Adding a few drops onto the lenses and rub for at least 10 seconds, even if the solutions calls themselves 'no rub'. This is just a marketing ploy ok! Do the same with the other side of the lenses. Be gentle and don't tear them!

3. Rinse with fresh solution before placing the lenses into the case.

4. Never use tap water cos tap water can spoil your lenses as it isn't pH balanced, plus you risk getting germs into the eyes.

5. Store contact lenses in contact lens case and soak with solution.

And yes, these steps should be done daily, not just once a week/month! Hah.

At First Sight Day 1: Purchasing contact lenses from unauthorized retailers

This post will be part 1 of a 7-day challenge for At First Sight campaign.

Day 1's topic will be on Purchasing contact lenses from unauthorized retailers. Many youths suffer from different degrees of eye infections due to incompatible or counterfeit lenses sold online, without a license.

Most unfortunately for me, I am one of those who constantly order my lenses online. This will actually be the most difficult habit to break cos I freaking LOVE coloured contact lenses!

Having said that, I can definitely understand why people would order online! The lenses are SO cheap compared to those sold in optical center. When compared, those cosmetic lenses that I get online probably cost slightly more than a dollar PER MONTH compared to over $20 per month if I get them from optical shops. Plus the former makes me look better compared to those plain transparent ones.. SO MEH!

I really really hate to say this but the crackdown of these unauthorized sellers are indeed for our own good. Our eyes are precious and it is dangerous to order online when you do not know the source of those contact lenses you are putting into your eye. I have been lucky so far, only suffering from dry eyes and minor infections but who knows what can happen next?

All is not lost for vain people like moi! Because there are in fact several brands of coloured contact lenses that are safe and has passed HSA's regulations. Team At First Sight has collaborated with Misaki Con and they have sponsored us ambassadors with safe and pretty lenses! Misaki is registered with HSA on supply of medical products regulation so you can buy pretty lenses and have a piece of mind.

Finally. You would have thought that after 4 years of dining here we would have learnt our lesson by ordering less, but nooooo. Portion has to be: giant.

Sharks fin with crab meat. I am really against eating sharks fin for over 10 years and have consistently rejected eating them. This year, I scooped some crab meat to eat and gave all the fins and soup to my grandpa and mum since it is really awkward to reject the entire bowl.

Abalone and sea cucumber and oysters. I nearly died eating the damn oyster cos it tasted so damn gross. Had to down an entire cup of tea to swallow it which explains why I got really full after this.

This was good!

Red bean soup with green tea dumpling. I hated red bean soup so I took only one mouth. What surprised me was the dumpling. I thought it would taste good but URGH. Nasty tasting stuff. Only had one out of 2.

Fried nian gao was good! Strange cos I never liked it in the past. Must be getting old and thus my taste buds are dying.

Ambassador for At First Sight!

As most of my friends already know (due to my constant nagging!), I am doing my final year project on contact lens care! I have never officially explained what it is really about so here goes:

"At First Sight" is a youth oriented contact lens care campaign that stresses the importance of proper cleaning and tending of contact lenses amongst university students. The campaign arises due to an increasing trend of contact lens usage by youths for the purpose of a beautified appearance. However, a negligence to properly contact lens care results in a higher risk of eye infections and other eye health problems. "At First Sight" hopes to communicate the message of prioritizing eye health above appearances because the sights you share with your loved ones are the sights truly worth keeping.

Although I am one of the 3 in charge of this campaign, I am also one of the ambassadors as well (because I am totally a target audience, HAHAHA)

I know I have been a negative and critical person most of the time but I really do have a lot to be thankful for!

I am thankful for my internship in RWS cos I get to know and be fwens with awesome people from CS, especially Lova and Joonsy. Where were you gaiz all my life?

Thankful for my family and I hope my grandparents will stay healthy for a good long time still.

Thankful that I sort of have a job waiting for me. I am rather anxious about it though! 2 dreams about it so far and they are all terrible exaggerated versions.

Mostly I am thankful for my awesome boyfee for supporting me and loving me. Seeing the bracelet I bought in 2009 in the photo makes me happy! Sorry I was crazy, and still am sometimes. Of course, being handsome helps too HAHAHA!

This was the last photo of me looking human. Yes pimple on forehead n small puffy eyes but still, human. I have morphed into an alien so I don't think that it is appropriate to post any photos of myself. (Not that I have any. Aliens hate taking photos.)

Seriously?? Aren't there more pressing issues compared to the views of one journalist on something as juvenile as this?

My point being, WTF should she apologise? She is a freaking journalist and thus entitled to her own views what! I have to say that I agree with her very much though. I am super anti K-pop culture and I feel like killing myself whenever I have any encounters with them.

K-pop female groups: Gives the male population (assuming straight) an unusually high expectation of what girls should look like. Please hor, we Singaporeans do not spend 10 hours in the gym or dance training, neither do we stop eating after 7pm. We have a fucking life.

K-pop male groups: I don't know about you, but my eardrums can sure take a break from all the siao ginnas screams. Plus, there is nothing attractive about a guy looking and having the built of a woman okay! In the past, they would be called 'sissys' or 'niang'. And now it is the 'in' thing? wtf.

K-dramas: The worst of the lot. Male waits for female in the rain. Female being bullied again and again by rival or in-law. Overcomes all obstacles due to 'true love'. End up giving plenty of girls false hope about a fairytale ending. 3 words for this: "wait long long" okay? Wont happen in real life!

So yes, blood boils that I have to live in such a society. Thank god for ear phones and real music.

Today marks the very last day of formal lessons in NTU. 11/11/11. Perfect.

Yes, sucks that I still have FYP so I can't graduate earlier. Cheyyyy!! Why CS why? You are wasting my youth yo! I am growing wrinkles by the seconds!

But I no longer have any more modules to clear. (Providing that I pass this sem's, of course.)

This morning, on my way to school, I felt slightly different. In the first hour of my journey to school, I told myself to treasure this very last day of lessons that I have.

Last Saturday's date out to Sentosa. Not very scenic but I thought that the weather was perfect. Cooling, and not much sun. *thumbs up*

When I was at Cafe del Moar last year, the beds were free for use. Now, you have to spend a minimum of $200. *sad face*

In the past, I would have brought a ball to play. Now, its all foooooood :D

Review: This is their star product as well as my favourite product out of the 3! It removes dead skin extremely well and leaves skin smooth. I use it daily and really leaves the skin soft. The texture of the gel is really watery so be careful not to drip!

Next, the Mineral Bubble Face Wash

Directions:

Pump sufficient amount on palm. Smooth it on your face and massage in circular motion to make sure that impurities, dirt and oil are being effectively removed from your skin. Rinse with water. Gentle for daily use.

Review: Bubble foam cleansers are very popular right now because it is more convenient: we do not need to lather! The foam is soft and creamy and upon application, it actually gives a slight cooling feel. The cleanser is moisturising and does not dry out the skin.

Lastly, the Mineral Aqua Whitening Enhancer to boost hydration, whitening & penetration of skincare products.

Directions:

After cleansing, pour an adequate amount onto your palm and gently pat onto face to let it be completely absorbed by the skin. Skin will feel supple and smooth after the Mineral Aqua Whitening Enhancer has been fully absorbed. Skin becomes fairer and more radiant with regular use!

Review: This product is absorbed into the skin quickly and leaves the skin moisturised and soft. My skin looks slightly brighter as well after usage. Another plus point is that it is super economical; a little goes a long way and I only need about 5 drops for each application.

Despite the flake over Hooters' girls skimpy orange shorts, their services are really good! Attentive and didn't get impatient when we took forever to order. The food was yummeh too.

Drinks for us. I ordered additional water (Fiji, lol) cos I was damn thirsty. It cost 40 cents less than my mango juice. ＼（－－）／

10 Chicken wings/drumlets! Reminds me of Chilis! Aww yum.

Ribs. My first time eating btw lol. Taste like Bah Kwa! The corn was terrible but the salad and potato wedges more than makes up for it. The wedges were awesomeness.

Grilled fish was even better! And we love the Italian salad dressing noms.

At this point I almost ordered desserts but thank goodness we didn't! Insanely full after these dishes.

2) AO Sept. Love this cos I hate buying protein tablets for my lenses and this one works just as well. Plus, much more fun heh.

3) B.B Eye roll-on. Supposed to be the first ever bb cream for eyes. However, the formula is too runny / the dispensing mechanism doesn't work too well. It is a really messy product. Don't expect to roll it on. At most, dab. Have some anti-dark eye ring properties though!

4+5) Klorane shampoos. I love this range of shampoo! My scalp problems started when I stupidly tried a 2 in 1 shampoos in the past, it snowed and hair fell drastically. I've tried a bottle of nizoral and it was not too bad, but highly poisonous. On my way to purchase my second bottle of nizoral, the promoter for Klorane advised me to stop using harsh chemicals and try Klorane instead, which is made with natural... stuff. I got one and YAY to clear scalp after trying like 1000 remedies, including apple cider vinegar which made my hair smell like shit.

6) Bought the conditioner as well cos I loved the brand so much. Sadly, this does nothing much, despite the price $19.90 for such a small tube. Upon reading the instructions, this isn't a conditioner but rather, a 'detangler'. Supposed to use it on towel dried hair, not dripping wet hair like I did. -.- Well, using it on dry hair works much better. My thin hair ends feels thicker but it is SO troublesome. In the end, I use the 'conditioner' first before the shampoo HAHAHA

7 and 8) Snacks I grabbed cos I love sugar and chocolate

I celebrated my 2nd time turning 21 in Quincy Hotel! Was choosing between several hotels when I saw several blogs featuring Quincy. Deal looks pretty good so I booked it! My stay was perfect :) Photos flood!

But first, a scary photo of Cuddles guarding my essay on Friday night. I've finished the word count by then but not the editing and referencing. Had to take lappie with me to the hotel! :(

Didn't have anything new or special to wear, plus it was a 'fat body' day. So I just threw a top and skirt together outside a bikini.

16th Sept - out with the girls! We were supposed to celebrate mah birthday and make up for Joanna's missing one =/

We were at Paradise Inn @313 and this is this first time I've ever agreed to Chinese cuisine as a birthday dinner. I will be yelling for Manhattan Fish Market most of the time :P

COLD ROCK. Queue was INSANELY long. Queue line says 20 mins but I think it was more like 30. Anw, I decided to go grab seats instead which was a horribly difficult task. But I did it in less than 5 mins despite many people loitering around for seats. Know why?

If there is ONE skill that I've learnt from dear NTU, it will be seat snatching.

Everyday, I spend 4 bloody hours to NTU and back and being an absolute sloth, I NEED a seat. My seat snatching skills iz pretty awesome. But I do get VERY PISSED if I don't get a seat. Thanks for imparting auntie skills to me ah ntu. So yes, I snatched someone's seat that she has been aiming for. (But she did get another one after about 5 mins so I'm not guilty.)

Thanks to thesamplestore, I got to try out the new Marshmallow Whip Facial Wash from Biore!

For baby smooth skin!

I never knew that:

1) Pre-mature wrinkles, loss of bounciness in skin are a result of stress caused by cleansing and application of toner & moisturiser.

2) Cleansing is the most stressful to our skin!!

Horror of horrors. I had always scrubbed my face REALLY HARD while cleansing, hoping to get it as clean as possible. I have been treating my face more kindly recently.. All by using the Marshmallow Whip Facial Wash! This is because the unique pump dispenses awesomely dense, thick and non-drip FOAM, unlike the flat foam you get from hand lathering...

The foam feels ultra fine, which cleanses better as bubble is smaller than pore size. The foam is also enriched with Collagen, which provide lots of moisture for baby smooth skin!

Just use 1 or 2 pumps of the foam and gently massage it onto the face in circular motions...

My review: The foam smells nice and has a really dense texture compared to other foam washes I've used. While cleansing, the foam actually becomes creamy... ^^

Skin is clean after washing and does not feel tight.

Since school have started, my life has pretty much been controlled by it. I'm close to becoming a full-time n.e.r.d and even got upset when the professor uploaded readings late. Nothing was worth taking photos of so far with school life.

Ironically, if all goes well, this should be my last semester being a school kid so I am kind of enjoying the hard work, in a sadistic way.

And my awesome boyfee is working round the clock SO MUCH, I hardly get to see him. His mum hardly gets to see him.

I am recently pissed by 2 other things (besides school).

1) P.E 2011: I Cannot believe that I got duped. In SG, there are only 2 kinds of people, those who are for TT(aka PAP) or those against. And I so did not realize that they were splitting the votes by allowing TJS into the election. FUCK. Big ass mistake. My heart died when TT won. I love SG and I hate to see it fall into such wrong hands and inhumanity. Confidence for the future? I am very confident that life will be harder. :'(

2) Can the HSA stop banning blogshops selling coloured contact lenses? Seriously, I can swear that it is confirm plus chop a conspiracy. Obviously, optical shops are losing big money and hence, cook up all sorts of 'horror' stories of those lenses being 'unsafe'.

Where am I supposed to buy lenses without those blogshops? Lenses from optical shops cost 5X more and ain't as comfortable/durable. (AND UGLY TOO). I pray that someone nice will introduce me to a reliable supplier pleaseeee :((
